Our Beliefs

As a church, our basic fundamental beliefs are explained in the Study Catechism. People interested in membership must first read through the Confirmation Version of this Catechism.

The Presbyterian Church U.S.A. has provided serveral useful links explaining our fundamental beliefs as a church.

For members of all ages, we also recommend reading Being Presbyterian in the Bible Belt: A Theological Survival Guide for Youth, Parents, and Other Confused Presbyterians by Ted V. Foote, Jr. & P. Alex Thornburg.

Who We Are

"Worship the Lord with gladness." (Psalm 100:2)

Worshipping God with gladness is central to our life as a Christian congregation. We gather every Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. for prayer, the hearing of the Word, and the monthly celebration of the Lord's Supper. Special services include Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday Communion, Ash Wednesday, and "Hanging of the Greens" during Advent.

"Come into His presence with singing." (Psalm 100:2)

Praising the Lord through song and melody is an integral part of our worship. The Amherst Presbyterian Church choir and organist lead the musical portion of the service each week. The choir rehearses each Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.

"Know that the Lord is God." (Psalm 100:3)

Growing in the knowledge of God and God's word is central to the life of faith in the Presbyterian Church. Our church seeks to provide a variety of learning opportunities for adults, youth, and children. Sunday School for adults starts at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. Sunday School for children and youth takes place during the second half of the service. Weekly evening Bible Study is available durin designated  times throughout the year.

To enhance learning opportunities, the church offers use of our library. Library resources include classic as well as contemporary works, children's books and a variety of videotapes.
